Chemistry Personnel

Achala Kankanamge- Achala grew up in Kandy, Sri Lanka at the heart of the island nation and studied at Girls’ High School Kandy. She followed the physical science stream for her G.C.E Advanced Levels and emerged as the top-ranking student in the Kandy district. Achala is a current freshman enrolled in the Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences (MLS) program at the University of Pennsylvania. She plans to major in chemistry and physics and has a strong interest in pursuing research. Her current interests include organometallics and metal/ covalent organic frameworks. She will be working under the guidance of Dr. Daniel Mindiola to gain lab and research experience. Outside of academics she is involved with the Penn Shotokan Karate Club and Penn Buddhism Club. Achala enjoys playing the piano and watching comedy in her free time.
