amidecation

The simple tris dimethyl amide, amine cation shown above has been demonstrated to be a superb carboamination catalyst of alkynes with aldimines to afford α,β-unsaturated imines. This cation has a greater degree of functional group tolerance and can be prepared readily from two commercially available reagents, Ti(NMe2)4 and [HNMe2Ph][B(C6F5)4]. The anion B(C6F5)4 has been omitted for clarity. For more information about this catalyst: Aneetha, H., etal. Organometallics 2006, in press.
